One on one Life Coach Mentorship Program
The core success of the Civil k9 program is based on several facts.
The first is attributed to the fact that male youth are drawn to a program that involves Military/ Law Enforcement K9 training. Secondly and probably more importantly is our one on one mentorship methodology, which includes addressing issues ranging from life skills to social skills.
The advantage of a life Coach for these young men are first and foremost, they get to experience a positive relation with a male role model. The building of this relationship leads into what I refer to as a “Right of Passage” where a male mentor can now openly speak and teach to a youth who is willing to listen and learn based on the trust they have built in their relation.
The advantage to this is that mentors are able to lead youth by way of trust as oppose to dictatorship.
One area of much concern for youth is in regards to social skills especially for those suffering from anxiety issues or self-worth. Mentors are able to provide a sense of confidence and security to youth just by their sheer presence.
Civil k9 has paved a path and opportunities for youth to visit local businesses who support the one on one program. These businesses go out of their way to purposely be very accommodating and friendly to youth when they arrive on scene. What this does for the youth is it makes their social experience a positive one which leads to building their self-esteem while also elevating their sense of community and belonging.
The Puslinch Fire Hall has also been extremely supportive of the Civil k9 youth program and welcomes youth (and dog) in a non-judgemental manner and offers support where ever possible.
Coupled with teaching practical skills such as k9 skills, survival skills, basic tool skills (hammer, axe, screw driver etc), how to pump fuel into a vehicle, all under the umbrella of one on one mentorship. Youth are able to experience success, overcome obstacles and move forward.
